One of those nights - good version

Tonight was one of those nights when I am reminded of why I do what I do. I spent the day registering campers, selling firewood, and answering questions. The campground was full by 8:00 PM and that's when it got really nice. When it's busy like that, part of my job is to be available and visible. What this means is I get to talk to people without there having to be a crisis or a reprimand involved. It's a nice feeling to walk through the full campground and hear families having a good time doing things together. As it gets dark, there is a very warm, cozy feeling seeing them all gathered around their campfires, some toasting marshmallows, others just sitting around the fire enjoying the evening. After my last round tonight, I stopped in the parking lot in the picnic area and just looked up at the night sky. The moon was just past full and rising above the trees and lighting up the park. The sky was dark and clear and full of stars, I could see Cassiopeia, the Big Dipper and the MIlky Way. As I stood there and enjoyed the sight, thinking "It doesn't get much better than this", it did. While I was standing there looking up into the sky, the coyotes started singing in the distance. What a way to end the day!

  1. That sounds so peaceful. Very cool. You have a really awesome job. I'd love to read more about it. Do you ever camp there yourself?

  2. Sounds to me like the coyotes had the same thought you did, at the same moment.
